Ruling Planets Method for Birth Time Rectification

Prof. Krishnamurti proposed that the Ruling Planets at the time of birth should correspond to the Ascendant's sign lord and star lord. This provides an independent, calendar-based check on the birth time β€” completely separate from life event analysis.

The logic: the cosmos is self-consistent. The same planets ruling the birth moment (as Ruling Planets) should also rule the Ascendant degree of the chart cast for that moment.

The Ruling Planets at Birth Rule

At the moment of birth, the Ruling Planets are:

  • Day lord
  • Lagna (Ascendant) sign lord
  • Lagna star lord
  • Moon sign lord
  • Moon star lord

The Lagna sign lord and Lagna star lord are both derived from the Ascendant degree itself. Therefore, for a given candidate Ascendant, these two terms are automatically correct for that candidate.

The check is: do the Day lord, Moon sign lord, and Moon star lord (the three Ruling Planets independent of the Ascendant) match the Lagna sign lord and Lagna star lord of the candidate birth time?

Step-by-Step Application

1
Compute the three independent Ruling Planets

Fix the day of birth β†’ Day lord. Compute the Moon's sidereal position for the date β†’ Moon sign lord and Moon star lord. These three do not depend on birth time.

2
List all candidate Ascendant degrees in the uncertain window

For each minute within the birth time range, compute the sidereal Ascendant. Group them by which sub lord they have β€” only sub lord boundaries matter, not every single minute.

3
For each candidate Ascendant, identify Lagna sign lord and Lagna star lord

These two are determined by the sign and nakshatra of the Ascendant degree.

4
Select the candidate where RP overlap is maximum

The correct Ascendant candidate is the one whose Lagna sign lord and Lagna star lord BOTH appear in the set {Day lord, Moon sign lord, Moon star lord}. A perfect match (both appear) gives the highest confidence.

5
Cross-check with life events

Verify the selected candidate Ascendant passes the cusp sub lord test for at least 2–3 confirmed life events. If it does, the birth time is rectified.

Worked Example

Birth details: Tuesday, Moon in Virgo 12Β° (Hasta nakshatra). Birth time uncertain between 8:00–9:00 AM.

  • Day lord: Tuesday β†’ Mars
  • Moon sign lord: Virgo β†’ Mercury
  • Moon star lord: Hasta β†’ Moon
  • Independent Ruling Planets: {Mars, Mercury, Moon}

Now evaluate candidate Ascendants within 8:00–9:00 AM:

  • At 8:10 AM β†’ Lagna in Libra (Venus sign lord) / Vishakha (Jupiter star lord). Neither Venus nor Jupiter is in {Mars, Mercury, Moon} β†’ poor match.
  • At 8:45 AM β†’ Lagna in Scorpio (Mars sign lord) / Anuradha (Saturn star lord). Mars is in RP but Saturn is not β†’ partial match.
  • At 8:35 AM β†’ Lagna in Scorpio (Mars sign lord) / Jyeshtha (Mercury star lord). Mars AND Mercury are both in RP β†’ excellent match.

Candidate 8:35 AM with Lagna in Jyeshtha (Mercury star) passes the RP test. Verify against life events to confirm.
