Promise in the Chart
Before predicting when an event will happen, KP requires the astrologer to first determine whether the event is promised in the chart at all. This is the concept of "promise" — the horoscope either contains the seed of an event or it does not.
The promise is governed by the sub lord of the relevant house cusp. If the sub lord confirms the house's signification, the event will occur in the native's lifetime (provided other conditions align). If it denies, no amount of favourable dasha–bhukti can force the event.
The Five-Step Promise Test
For marriage: 7th house + supporting houses 2 (family) and 11 (gains). For job: 6th, 10th, 2nd, 11th. For property: 4th, 11th.
Compute the sidereal degree of the house cusp, look up its star and sub from KP tables. The sub lord is the judge.
The sub lord must be a significator of the primary house and its supporting houses. If it signifies only adverse houses, the result is denied.
Check if the sub lord is in the star of a planet placed in the 12th from the queried house (the denial house). If yes, results are blocked or severely curtailed.
If the cusp sub lord confirms the promise, then move to finding significators and dasha–bhukti periods. Timing analysis without confirming the promise first leads to erroneous predictions.
