Dasha–Bhukti System in KP

KP uses the same Vimsottari Dasha system as classical Vedic astrology — a 120-year cycle of nine planetary periods. However, the interpretation of each period is fundamentally different in KP. The dasha lord does not give results based on its own position; it gives results according to its star lord's house significations.

The dasha–bhukti–antara chain narrows down from a broad time window (years) to a precise trigger window (weeks). All three lords must be significators of the queried house for the event to fructify.

Classical Vedic Approach

  • Dasha lord gives results based on its own sign, house placement, and lordship.
  • The effects are modified by dignity (exaltation, debilitation), aspects, etc.
  • Results depend heavily on the dasha lord's natural and functional benefic/malefic nature.

KP Approach

  • Dasha lord is an agent — it delivers the results of its star lord.
  • The star lord's house tenancy and ownership define the subject matter of the period.
  • The sub lord of the dasha lord determines the polarity (benefic or malefic) of results.
  • Benign/malefic nature matters less than the house connections through the star lord.

How KP Interprets a Dasha Period

For a planet X as dasha lord:

  1. Find X's star lord (the lord of the nakshatra X occupies). Call it Y.
  2. Y's house tenancy (which house Y sits in) and Y's house ownership (which houses Y rules) define the primary significations of this dasha.
  3. Find X's sub lord. The sub lord determines whether those significations will manifest positively or adversely.
  4. Events related to jointly signified houses (signified by both X and its running bhukti lord) will occur during this dasha–bhukti combination.
