Significators

In KP astrology, a significator of a house is any planet that is connected to that house through a defined set of relationships. Unlike classical Vedic astrology where the house lord is the primary significator, KP prioritises the star lord hierarchy — giving the strongest weight to planets whose star lord occupies the house.

To determine whether an event will occur, and when, the astrologer must first compile the complete list of significators for the relevant houses and then check if the current dasha–bhukti period involves those significators.

The Five Categories of Significators

Listed from strongest to weakest in KP hierarchy.

1
Planets in the star of occupants Strongest

Planets whose star lord occupies the house in question. They carry and transmit the energy of the occupant.

2
Occupants of the house Very Strong

Planets physically placed inside the house. They are directly connected to the house matters.

3
Planets in the star of owners Strong

Planets whose star lord rules (owns) the house cusp. They act on behalf of the house owner.

4
Owner of the house Moderate

The planet that owns the sign on the house cusp. Classic Vedic significator — weaker in KP hierarchy.

5
Planets conjoined/aspecting the above Weakest

Planets in close conjunction with or aspecting any of the above categories. They are auxiliary significators.

Key KP Insight

A planet that is a strong stellium (stellar) significator through category 1 can outperform the classical house owner (category 4) in delivering results. The star lord's tenancy in a house is what gives the planet its "agenda." A significator with many house connections is called a multiple significator and is especially powerful.
