House Significators

To find the significators of any house, the astrologer systematically works through five categories of planetary connection and assembles a list. The categories are applied in order from strongest (Category 1) to weakest (Category 5). In practice, Categories 1–4 are the most commonly used.

Step-by-Step Method

Example query: Find all significators of the 7th house (marriage / partnership) in a natal chart.

  1. List occupants of the 7th house. Find all planets placed physically in the 7th bhava (house). Call this set O₇.
  2. Find planets in the star of each occupant. For each planet in O₇, identify the nakshatra it rules. Any planet in those nakshatras is a Category 1 significator.
  3. Find the 7th house owner. The lord of the sign on the 7th cusp is the house owner. Call it L₇.
  4. Find planets in the star of L₇. Identify L₇'s nakshatra ownership. Any planet in those nakshatras is a Category 3 significator.
  5. Add L₇ itself as a Category 4 significator.
  6. (Optional) Add conjunct/aspecting planets of the above as Category 5.

Eliminating Weak Significators

Not all significators are equally relevant. KP allows elimination of weaker candidates:

Retain if…

  • The planet is also a Ruling Planet at the time of judgment.
  • The planet's star lord is placed in the relevant house (strong stellar connection).
  • The planet occupies or owns the 11th house (house of fulfilment).

Eliminate if…

  • The planet is a significator only through category 5 (conjunct/aspect) and has no other connection.
  • The planet's sub lord clearly belongs to an adverse house for the query (denial indicator).
  • The planet is not a Ruling Planet and is a very weak Category 4/5 significator.

Multiple Significators

A planet that significates multiple relevant houses simultaneously is the most powerful trigger. For marriage (houses 2, 7, 11), a planet that connects to all three is a prime candidate for the dasha lord that actually delivers the wedding.

Conversely, a planet that signifies both the desired house AND an adverse house (e.g., both 7th and 6th for marriage) indicates complications — the event may happen but with difficulties.
