Denial of Results
In KP astrology, denial occurs when the sub lord of a house cusp is so placed that it actively opposes or fails to support the matters of that house. A denied promise means the event will not occur in the native's lifetime, regardless of how many significators of that house exist or how favourable the dasha period appears.
Prof. Krishnamurti's rule: "If the sub lord of the cusp is in the star of a planet occupying or owning the 12th house from the queried house, the matters of that cusp will not fructify."
The Core Denial Rule
The 12th-from-the-House Rule
The house that is the 12th from any queried house is the "negation house" for that matter. If the cusp sub lord's star lord is placed in (or owns) this negation house, the cusp's promise is denied.
Negation house = (Queried house + 11) mod 12; or simply count 12 back.
| Queried House | Negation (12th from) |
|---|---|
| 1 (Self) | 12 |
| 2 (Wealth) | 1 |
| 4 (Property) | 3 |
| 5 (Children) | 4 |
| 6 (Job/Service) | 5 |
| 7 (Marriage) | 6 |
| 9 (Fortune) | 8 |
| 10 (Career) | 9 |
| 11 (Gains) | 10 |
| 12 (Foreign) | 11 |
Denial by House β Examples
Marriage (7th house)
Denied if: 7th cusp sub lord is in the star of a planet in houses 1, 6, or 10 β houses that oppose partnership/commitment.
Example: 7th cusp sub lord is Saturn; Saturn's star lord is Mercury placed in the 1st house (self, independence) β denial or very late marriage.
Children (5th house)
Denied if: 5th cusp sub lord is in the star of a planet in houses 1, 4, or 10 β denial of 5th house matters.
Example: 5th cusp sub lord is Venus in the star of Sun placed in the 4th house β complications or denial of natural childbirth.
Foreign travel / Settlement (12th house)
Denied if: 12th cusp sub lord is in the star of a planet in houses 2, 4, or 11 β attachment to home/family prevents departure.
Example: 12th cusp sub lord in the star of Moon placed in 4th house β strong domestic ties, no foreign settlement.
Job / Service (6th house)
Denied if: 6th cusp sub lord is in the star of a planet in 5th, 9th, or 12th β houses indicating self-employment, fortune, or loss of service.
Example: 6th cusp sub lord in the star of Jupiter (9th lord in 5th house) β native prefers business or academia, not regular employment.
Partial Denials and Delays
Not every unfavourable sub lord placement produces an outright denial. Some produce partial results or delays:
Sub lord signifies both the event house AND an adverse house
Event occurs but with complications, delays, or mixed results. E.g., marriage happens but with difficulties.
Sub lord is retrograde
Results come after delays, re-attempts, or reversal of initial outcomes. Some schools treat retrograde sub lords as denial, others as delay only.
Sub lord is weak (combust or in enemy sign)
Results are subdued or the event occurs but without fulfilment of expectations attached to it.
Sub lord signifies 8th house strongly
Transformation, obstacles, or sudden disruption to the queried matter. Not always full denial but significant challenge.
