Sub Lord of Cusps
In KP astrology, every house cusp falls at a precise degree in the sidereal zodiac. That degree belongs to a particular sign, a particular star (nakshatra), and a particular sub. The owner of that sub — the cusp sub lord — is the final authority on whether the house will deliver its results.
Prof. Krishnamurti's dictum: "The sub lord is the deciding factor." No matter how strongly a house is indicated by other factors, if the cusp sub lord denies its results, those results will not come to pass.
The Golden Rule
Promise Given ✓
The cusp sub lord is a significator of the house in question (i.e., the sub lord is placed in or rules the house, or its star lord does so). The event will occur in the proper dasha–bhukti period of significator planets.
Denial / Negation ✗
The cusp sub lord is in the star of a planet connected to the house opposite/adverse to the matter sought. For instance, for the 7th house (marriage), if the 7th cusp sub lord is in the star of a 1st/6th/10th-house planet, it may indicate denial or difficulty.

The prime houses for any query are typically the houses that signify the matter + the 11th (gains). The cusp sub lord of the prime house must be a significator of those houses.

Worked Example
Question: Will the native marry?
- Identify the 7th house cusp degree in the natal chart.
- Look up its sidereal sign, nakshatra (star), and sub from KP tables.
- Check: is the 7th cusp sub lord occupying or ruling houses 2, 7, or 11? If yes, marriage is promised.
- If the sub lord is in the star of a planet placed in houses 1, 6, or 10, marriage is denied or severely delayed.
- Timing: find significators of houses 2, 7, 11, and match them to the running dasha–bhukti periods when those planets operate.
