Lagnas (Ascendants)
In Vedic astrology, Lagna (लग्न) refers to the rising sign or ascendant at the time of birth. However, beyond the main lagna (ascendant), there are several special lagnas defined by Sage Parasara that provide additional insights into specific areas of life.
These special lagnas are mathematical points calculated based on the position of the Sun at sunrise and other factors. They move at different rates through the zodiac and represent different aspects of an individual's life and personality.
Hora Lagna (HL)
Hora Lagna is at the position of Sun at sunrise and moves at the rate of one rasi (sign) per hora (hour). It represents wealth, prosperity, and financial matters in a birth chart.
Ghati Lagna (GL)
Ghati Lagna is at the position of Sun at sunrise and moves at the rate of one rasi per ghati (24 minutes). It represents fame, power, and authority in a birth chart.
Bhava Lagna (BL)
Bhava Lagna is at the position of Sun at sunrise and moves at the rate of one rasi per 2 hours. It represents the general flow of life events.
Sree Lagna (SL)
Sree Lagna is calculated based on the Moon's position in its constellation and is important for prosperity. "Sree" means wealth and also refers to Goddess Lakshmi.
